Seed and flower pattern egg cup set 

This Oiva set from Marimekko brings double joy. It consists of two egg cups - one in the Alku -pattern, the other cup adorns the familiar, floral Unikko pattern. The stoneware set is dishwasher, oven, microwave and freezer safe.

The bean-like shapes of the Alku -pattern represent seeds that grow into gorgeous, vibrant flowers. They symbolize a new beginning, as spring is, hence the name Alku - in Finnish "beginning".

The famous Unikko poppy pattern from Marimekko was created in 1964 at a time when the design house's collections mainly featured abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to make something interesting out of this organic theme and designed a whole series of floral prints. Today, the iconic flower stands for creativity.

In a way, the set represents an evolution - from the inconspicuous seed grows a magnificent flower.

Both designed by Maija Isola, the egg cup set displays both the iconic 1964 Unikko (poppy) pattern and the Alku (beginning) pattern that represents the growing of seeds. Zestaw Oiva od Marimekko przynosi podwójną radość. Składa się z dwóch kieliszków na jajka - jednej we wzór Alku, drugiej ozdobionej znanym, kwiatowym wzorem Unikko. Zestaw kamionkowy można myć w zmywarce, piekarniku, kuchence mikrofalowej i zamrażarce.

Kształty przypominające fasolę we wzorze Alku reprezentują nasiona, które wyrastają na wspaniałe, żywe kwiaty. Symbolizują nowy początek, tak jak wiosna, stąd nazwa Alku - po fińsku „początek”.

Słynny wzór maków Unikko od Marimekko powstał w 1964 roku, w czasach, gdy w kolekcjach domu projektowego przeważały abstrakcje. Projektantka Maija Isola chciała zrobić coś ciekawego z tego organicznego motywu i zaprojektowała całą serię kwiatowych nadruków. Dziś kultowy kwiat oznacza kreatywność.

Zestaw stanowi w pewnym sensie ewolucję – z niepozornego nasionka wyrasta wspaniały kwiat.

Obydwa zaprojektowane przez Maiję Isolę zestawy kieliszków do jajek przedstawiają zarówno kultowy wzór Unikko (mak) z 1964 r., jak i wzór Alku (początek), który przedstawia uprawę nasion. Wykonane z brązowej kamionki, te kieliszki do jajek można myć w zmywarce, piekarniku, kuchence mikrofalowej i zamrażarce do codziennego użytku.

The bean-like shapes in the Alku (beginning) design represent seeds which grow into magnificent, vigorous flowers.

Unikko was created by Maija Isola in 1964 and has since become an international icon of print design. The founder of Marimekko, Armi Ratia, believed that it was not possible to faithfully capture the true essence of real flowers in print, which is why floral prints were earlier excluded from Marimekko collections. So, Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. Today, Unikko is a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko´s design identity.
